service - this controls the starting and stopping of service installed in linux

chkconfig - this controls which services are set to start during server boots up.

commands:

service <name_of_service> status
service <name_of_service> start
service <name_of_service> stop
service <name_of_service> reload
service <name_of_service> restart

chkconfig --list #to check the availability of a service
chkconfig <name_of_service> on #to make service available after restart
chkconfig <name_of_service> off #to make service unavailable after restart
